Disaster Kit
In a community disaster, you may need to be able to survive on your
own for three days or more. This means having a supply of food,
water, and other emergency supplies for each member of your family.
Disaster Kits can be kept in backpacks or duffel bags, water-proof
containers, etc.
- Water - at least one gallon daily per person
for three to seven days
- Food - enough for three to seven days
- Non-perishable, packaged, or canned foods
- Foods for infants or the elderly
- Snack foods
- Non-electric can opener
- Cooking tools / fuel
- Paper plates / plastic utensils
- Blankets, pillows, etc.
- Clothing - seasonal / rain gear / sturdy shoes
- First Aid Kit / Medications / Prescription Drugs
- Toiletries - hygiene items
- Special Items - for infants and the elderly
- Radio - battery operated, preferably with NOAA
Weather Radio
- Flashlight / Supply of Batteries
- Cash - Banks and ATMs may be closed or
unavailable for extended periods
- Keys
- Toys, Books, and Games
- Important Documents - in a waterproof container
- Insurance, medical records, bank info, etc.
- Document all valuables with video if possible
- Pet Care Items
- Proper identification / immunization records
- Ample supply of food and water
- Carrier or cage
- Medications
- Collar, muzzle, and leash
- Tools
- Vehicle fuel tanks filled
