Welcome to the Monongalia County Office of Emergency Management website. I would like to thank you for visiting our site. Hopefully it will provide you and your family with vital information in preparation for an emergency situation. I encourage you to review our site and develop a Home Disaster Plan for your family. Feel free to contact our office for assistance in disaster planning. 9-1-1 ... Our Enhanced 9-1-1 service opens a gateway to you for police, fire and emergency medical services anywhere in our county. Our highly trained Telecommunicators are prepared to answer your call, extract all pertinent information and dispatch the appropriate responders to your location. For those callers who are unable to provide complete information, our enhanced 9-1-1 service displays your telephone number and a dispatchable address that will be used to send you help. For our citizens using wireless telephones, we now receive a call back number and the location of the cell tower from which the call has reached us. In the not too distant future, we will also receive location information on the handset from which the call was placed. Computer-aided-dispatch software provides our Telecommunicators with the names of the appropriate agencies for your call, directions to your location, cross streets, water sources if needed and a call history at your location. MECCA Telecommunicators are also trained to provide “pre-arrival instructions” to assist you or members of your family to provide immediate medical care to an injured or ill person until the EMS or fire department can reach you. Please do not hesitate to “Dial 9-1-1” in your time of emergency. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ... The Monongalia County Office of Emergency Management is responsible for preparing, testing and maintaining a County Emergency Operations Plan to assist in dealing with major incidents in our community. This plan assigns responsibilities to the various public safety and public service agencies and provides for a coordinated response to disaster events. LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE [LEPC] ... We also maintain a Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan that must be tested annually. This plan is incident specific in that it deals only with hazardous material incidents. However, this plan incorporates many aspects, such as evacuation, from the County EOP. Our agency is designated as the guardian of records under the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act of 1986. In this role we accept and maintain information on reportable quantities of hazardous materials within the County. This information is available to the public at their request. We invite you to participate in our efforts to protect our friends and neighbors in Monongalia County ... spread the word, learn safety steps you can take to protect yourself and your family, develop a disaster plan ... BE PREPARED!
